IFTM invite scholars to deliver lectures and seminars to both internal faculty and public topics relevant to tourism, hospitality, journal research and among others. Below are the invited scholars who have given presentations and workshop at IFTM.

Professor Chris Ryan

University of Waikato, New Zealand

Prof. Ryan’s research interests include Tourist Behaviours and the Consequences of those Behaviours in terms of Impacts - Social, Psychological and Environmental; and the Business Organisations that shape those Tourist Experiences.

Seminar delivered

  • Public seminar on “Is there a crisis in research?” was delivered to about 30 local and Mainland faculty and students on 21 May 2019.

  • Internal seminar on “Get your paper seeing the light of day and beyond” for IFTM faculty on 27 November 2012.

Prof. Law’s areas of research expertise include Information Technology, Internet and E-commerce, Modelling and Forecasting, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Computer Assisted Education.

  • Internal seminar-workshop on “Revising Publishable Journal Manuscripts” was given to IFTM faculty on 11 January 2019.

  • Internal seminar on “Publication in Research Journals” was given to IFTM faculty on 28 May 2012.

Sun Yat-sen University

Dr. Dai’s research interests include Sustainable Tourism Development, Tourism Impacts, Complex Theory and Tourism Resilience.

Seminar delivered

Internal seminar on “Tourism development and residents’ subjective well-being: the mediation effect of livelihood resilience” was organised on 9 January 2019 for IFTM faculty. This is a joint research project between IFTM and SYSU.

Prof. Mihalik’s research areas include Investigation of Global and Mega-events; and Internationalization of Education.

Seminars delivered

  • Guest lecture on “Legacies of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games” was delivered to about 90 IFTM students on 9 October 2015.

  • Guest lecture on ““Mega Event Legacies of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics: The Last Privately Funded Olympic Games” was delivered to about IFTM faculty and students on 25 May 2012.

Dr. Van Niekerk’s focuses are on stakeholder theory and advocated for better community-participation models that ensure destination tourism benefits the local communities where it functions. Her area of teaching expertise are Tourism Development and Management, Destination and Event Marketing and Event Management.

Prof. Richards is a leading expert in the fields of cultural and creative tourism, events and placemaking. His major works include Cultural Tourism in Europe, Cultural Tourism: Global and Local Perspectives, Eventful Cities, the SAGE Handbook of New Urban Studies, Reinventing the Local in Tourism and Small Cities with Big Dreams.
